UNITED METHODIST- CIVIC YOUTH SERVING/SCOUTING DISTRICT WORKSHOP

SUGGESTED AGENDA

9:30 a.m.- Check in Refreshments

10:00 a.m.-10:50 a.m. - General Session (Invocation, Introductions, etc.)

1. Presentation "Our Church's Concern for Children, Youth, and Families." (15 min.) (By a church leader to emphasize and develop the subject. The  outreach to the un-churched and other faiths, church priorities of evangelism, ethnic and minorities, etc.)

2. Presentation "Civic Youth-Serving Agencies/Scouting Ministries  Resources for the Ministry of the Church" (15 min.) By a United Methodist Scouter (volunteer or professional) to interpret the BSA as a "resource and support system" for the church in the ministry to youth and families.

11:00 a.m.-12:20 p.m. - Workshop Sessions-Convener, Presenter, and Scouting Advisor for each workshop

1. "STRENGTHENING AND EXTENDING" the Civic Youth-Serving Agencies/Scouting Ministries in Your Church.

For those that presently have a Civic Youth-Serving Agencies/Scouting Ministries program

How to make them an integral part of your church's ministry

The whole Civic Youth-Serving Agencies/Scouting Ministries family

Reaching the un-churched

The "single parent family"

Involving those with handicapping conditions

Reporting within the church

Leadership is available--and how you can identify and recruit

Scouting District and Council resource to support

2. "YOU ARE INVITED"--to use the resources of Civic Youth-Serving Agencies/Scouting Ministries as a part of your church's ministry

For those from churches that do not have a Civic Youth-Serving Agencies/Scouting Ministries program

Review of needs of churches as they relate to children, youth and families

Civic Youth-Serving Agencies/Scouting Ministries as a resource to help meet these needs

How to initiate--the 10 steps

The leadership--who, where, recruiting, and who appoints

Program support--training available--the first few months

Identifying and recruiting youth and families

3. "MAKE IT A MINISTRY" to those youth and families you can serve

For those interested in the spiritual, moral, and character development influences

The chaplain and chaplain aide in the troop (BSA)

4. "PROJECTS FOR UNITED METHODIST MEN"--at the church, district, or conference level

For those interested in specific projects to support the Civic Youth-Serving Agencies/Scouting Ministries of the church at several levels

Thirty-six different ways in which individuals, small groups, or large groups can become involved

5. "THE SCOUTING COORDINATOR IN THE LOCAL CHURCH"
