This draft was presented to national relations Girl Scout staff in January 1996. This vision will guide program expansion efforts in the United Methodist Church and throughout Girl Scouting.

  • All United Methodist Churches house, host and/or support a Girl Scout troop/group.
  • The church understands the importance and need for all-girl programs.
  • The church understands girl issues.
  • Churches see Girl Scouts as an outreach ministry that fosters love, nurture and care for all girls.
  • Girl Scouts has parity within the Office of Civic Youth Serving Agencies.
  • The church acknowledges and supports the value of the Girl Scout movement in the United Methodist Church. Districts and conferences have action plans in place to capitalize on the gains from the church emphasis on Girl Scouting.
  • Girls and adults throughout the church are recognized by gender and agency specific awards.
  • Girl Scouts USA is just as committed to the church collaboration as the church is to the Girl Scouts USA collaboration.
  • All constituencies are educated about Girl Scouts/church operations and churches are open to non-United Methodist program participants.
  • Girl Scout Councils see Civic Youth Serving Agencies as a valuable resource for membership extension.
